Introduction

Juan Donovan is a producer, composer, and sound designer from Baltimore, MD.

Juan got his start when his beat demo landed in the hands of three music industry heavyweights at the same time; super engineer Tony Maserati, Big Beat Records founder (and Atlantic Records President) Craig Kallman, and founder of Wild Pitch Records; Stu Fine. These connections lead to Juan moving to NYC. After doing two remixes for Craig Kallman and Big Beat/Atlantic, Juan co-produced a classic remix with Tony Maserati for the legendary K.D. Lang.

After a year in NY, Juan moved back to Baltimore and dropped two legendary mixtapes with his production partner Jamal Roberts entitled Hamsterdam & Hamsterdam II. This lead to write ups in Rolling Stone, VIBE magazine, FADER, the New York Times, Pitchfork, XLR8R, and dozens of other publications. This set Juan on quite the trajectory and lead to songs or remixes for some of the industry's biggest names: Jelly Roll, R. Kelly, Wale, Paul Wall, G-Unit, Maino, Slim Thug, 24Hrs, Young Money, Dipset Byrdgang, and more. After the Hamsterdam mixtape becoming a favorite of writer/executive producer David Simon, Juan was tapped to do original songs for HBO's classic series The Wire. This lead to Juan catching the "hollywood bug" and he then moved to Los Angeles and began working on tons of other television shows, films, and product ads.

Juan creates and produces music for all genres but has been doing a ton of R&B lately. He released two R&B albums on his indie label JaMary Records and creates kits for other R&B producers. From synch placements in films & television shows, to producing for major & indie artists, to designing sound kits, Juan is a multi-talented musician who continues to surprise and deserves to be on your radar.
